Is there really a difference in the tone of solid wood as opposed to plywood and other composite materials?
Yes
It is my personal opinion that there is a noticeable difference at lower to medium volume levels. If you are playing at higher volume levels, the difference is negligible.

Does the type of solid wood used affect the tone?
Yes
Hardwoods such as oak, maple, cherry etc., tend to have a mellowing effect on the tone. Even though the wood is hard, it is porous which allows it to absorb the sound and makes for a mellow tone. Hardwoods are great for jazz and straight clean setups.  Ponderosa pine, poplar etc. also have this effect on the sound waves. Being softer woods they tend to absorb and mellow the tone. These woods are good for cabinets that are going to be tolexed.  Antique pine (salvaged) and southern yellow pine have proven to be the most resonant of all the materials I have used. The pine is dense because the sap inside turns to resin after time. This makes the wood dense, yet it has some absorption qualities which make for a nice resonant sound reproduction.

Is there a difference in price according to the wood I have my cabinet made of?
Yes
The standard material I use on all of my covered cabinets is ponderosa pine. Cabinets made of hardwoods, exotics and antique pine carry an up charge because of the higher cost of these raw materials.

Does it cost more if I want a custom color combination of tolex and grill cloth?
Yes
My covered cabinet pricing covers standard tolex and grill cloth configurations. Specialty tolex and grill cloth such as Vox checkered, Marshall basket weave, cane etc., cost more so there is an appropriate up charge.

Does it cost more if I want a cabinet built to my dimensions?
Not necessarily
Even though I have standard dimensions and cabinet styles, I will produce custom pieces per quote.

Do you have seconds available?
No
Each unit is hand crafted by myself. They are built one at a time with each unit being numbered, dated and signed by me. I build each cabinet as if it were going to be mine so I do not have seconds or culls.

Do you sell your cabinets unloaded or loaded?
Both
All published prices are for unloaded cabinets. If a customer requests a particular speaker or speakers I will get them and load them. Speaker cost is cost plus 20%.

Do your covered cabinets come with corner caps?
No
I try to make the corners as clean as possible for the smooth clean look. I will gladly install corners per your request for a minimal charge.

Do all of your cabinets come with a recessed handle pocket?
Yes
The recessed handle pocket is standard on my speaker cabinets. If you do not want this option just request no recess pocket.

If I order one of your cabinets unloaded, does it include everything except the speaker?
Yes
All of my cabinets come with ¾” heavy duty rubber feet, heavy duty (cushioned) leather handle, ¼” Switchcraft jack (wire attached) and nuts and lock washers to attach your speakers. All you have to do is remove the nuts and install your speakers.

Do you only build speaker cabinets?
No
I also produce combination cabinets, reproduction pieces as well as performing restoration services. These services are offered on a per job quote basis.

Is there a wait time on your cabinets?
Yes
Why?
I am a one man operation and I build each cabinet myself. I do try to keep “Blanks” of my standard cabinets on hand in order to speed the process. I refuse to sacrifice the quality and workmanship of my cabinets so it takes a little longer to produce than a mass produced product.
